On January 17, 2026, the Wicomico County Democratic Committee, alongside Crabs On The Shore, the Democratic Club of Wicomico County, and Shore Progress, hosted a unique candidate recruitment event at Brick Row Market. The atmosphere was intentionally low-pressure—less about rigid speeches and more about coffee, conversation, and real connection.

The goal defined by the coalition wasn't just to fill slots on a ballot; it was to build a team. We know that the "fight" for our values starts locally, and no one should have to navigate that path alone.
The Power of "The Why"
The event kicked off by addressing the most important question any candidate can ask: "Why are we here?" We were privileged to hear from several filed candidates who are already doing the work:
Dan Schwartz (MD-1)
Megan Outten (County Council District 7)
David Plotts (County Board of Education District 7)
They shared their personal "Why," providing a roadmap for those still on the fence. Their message was simple: you don't need a lifetime of political experience to run—you just need a commitment to your neighbors.
Making the Leap: Resources and Support
Between sips of great coffee, we dove into the "nitty-gritty" of running a campaign. The committee provided detailed packets and verbal briefings on:
The Logistics: Step-by-step instructions on how to get on the ballot.
The Funding: The essential role of ActBlue in powering grassroots campaigns.
The Strategy: Understanding the requirements for contested offices and the logistical hurdles of a campaign.
Join the Movement: Our Social Media Campaigns
If you couldn't make it to the event, we are keeping the momentum going online! Keep an eye on our social media channels for two special campaigns:
"The 2026 Slate": A deep dive into every local office available—from County Executive and Sheriff to the Board of Education and the Central Committee. Know exactly where you can make the biggest impact.
"Why I Ran": An inspirational series featuring current incumbents and new candidates sharing the moments that sparked their decision to lead. Let their stories be the catalyst for your own.

The Clock is Ticking
The Primary filing deadline in Maryland is February 24, 2026.
We want nothing more than for you to serve this community. Whether you are ready to sign up today or still have a hundred questions, we are here to support you. This wasn't a "one and done" event; we will continue to host follow-up sessions to cross-pollinate ideas and share best practices.
